What Big Data is? Big data exist in every field! In the past few years, interest in what comprises Big Data has increased. Let me tell you some mind-facts! Forbes reports that people access 4.15 million YouTube videos in a minute, post 456,000 tweets, post 46,740 Instagram photos and post 510,000 comments and update 293,000 Facebook statuses!

Just imagine the enormous chunks of data that such activities produce. Continuous data generation using social media, enterprise applications, telecommunications, and many other domains contributes to Big Data creation.

Until discussing what big data is, let me begin by providing some insight into why it is so important to use the word big data.

What was the last time you tried to back up your data using a floppy disk or CD? Let me say, Go right back to the early 21st century, right? Manual paper files, tapes, floppy drives, and disks have become redundant. The clarification for that is exponential data growth. People began to store their data in relational database systems, but with the appetite for innovations, technology, new software with quick response time, and internet launch, that’s not enough anymore. This vast, continuous data generation can be called Big Data. There are a few other variables characterized by Big Data, which I’ll discuss in this blog later.

Forbes estimates that at our current speed, 2.5 quintillion bytes of data produced daily, but that speed is accelerating only. The Internet of Things ( IoT) is one such technique that plays an integral part in this acceleration. Over the past two years, 90 percent of all data generated.

What Big Data is? Definition

So let me tell you what isn’t before I clarify what Big Data is.   The most popular misconception related to Big Data is that it relates to the volume of data or size. Yet, in fact, it refers only to the “large” amounts of data collected. Big data refers to huge amounts of data. Previously, massive data can store in databases, but current relational database systems cannot manage this data due to the diverse nature of this data. Big Data is something more than a list of various structured datasets; it’s an essential tool that can offer some benefits.

The three Major formats of what big data is:

  • Structured: Data format structured with a set scheme. Ex: RDBMS Express
  • Semi-structured: data that is partly ordered and has no fixed format. Ex: XML, and JSON
  • Unstructured: Unorganized with unknown schematic details. Ex: Video files, sound, etc.

  • Vulnerability: open to attacks or breaches

Now that I have told you what Big Data is and how is it generated rapidly let me give you a fascinating example of how this Big Data is used by Starbucks, one of the leading chain of coffeehouses.

Forbes, who described how Starbucks used Big Data to analyze the preferences of their customers to enhance and personalize their experience, came across this article. They studied the coffee buying habits of their representatives along with their favorite drinks before they usually ordered the time of day. And, even when customers visit the “new” Starbucks shop, the sales system at that store can recognize the customer via their smartphone and send their best order to the barista. Furthermore, their app will recommend new items based on the buying choices that consumers may be interested in checking out. It is what we call Big Data Analytics, my boys.

Mostly, companies primarily use Big Data Analytics to enhance their growth and expansion. It includes mainly applying various data mining techniques to the given data set, which would then help them make smart choices.

Big Data Applications

Some of the following domains which have transformed Big Data Applications are:

  • Entertainment: Netflix and Amazon use Big Data to offer their customers television shows and suggestions.
  • Insurance: Big data used to anticipate diseases, injuries, and the correct price of their goods.
  • Driverless cars: Driverless cars from Google capture about one gigabyte of data per second. To successfully complete these experiments, more and more data are required.
  • Education: Instead of conventional teaching methods, opt for big data-driven technology as a learning tool that improved the learning process and helped teachers better track their results.
  • Automobile: Rolls Royce has adopted Big Data by installing hundreds of monitors in its engines and propulsion systems that monitor their performance in every single detail. The changes in data communicated to engineers in real-time who decide the appropriate course of action, such as arranging repairs or deploying technical teams, if the problem needs it.
  • Government: The use of Big Data in the political field is fascinating to analyze patterns and to influence the results of elections. One such company is Cambridge Analytica Ltd. It is data-powered solely to alter the actions of the viewer and plays a significant role in the election cycle.

Value of Big Data

Big data is not useful about how much information a business has. The important point is how a company uses the data. Business uses data in its direction; the more effectively a business uses its data, the higher it’s capacity to expand.

  • Cost savings: Big Data applications such as Hadoop and Cloud-based Analytics can suggest cost benefits to the business. If enormous volumes of data are to be managed, and these tools can also help to find more efficient ways of doing business.
  • Time Reductions: The high speed of tools such as Hadoop and memory analytics can find new data sources to help companies analyze data immediately
  • Understanding market dynamics: You can better grasp existing business trends by analyzing Big Data. For instance, by monitoring purchaser buying habits, a company can find best-selling goods and production goods in line with this tendency. This allows him to overtake his rivals.
  • Online reputation control: big data analytics can perform an analysis of the sentiments. And you can get input on who is saying what about your product. If you need to track and improve your internet business company, then big data tools will facilitate all of this.
